The Jazz Generation, led by Suzanne Brooks, vocalist, songwriter, literary writer, speaker, event planner, was established as a multi-ethnic, multi-generational band in 2003.Eleven CDs, 2 musicals and 4 books are the result.

The Jazz Generation was established in 2003 in Sacramento by vocalist, songwriter, bandleader, Suzanne Brooks.
All members of the band core are seasoned professionals and expert sight-readers. Coupled with more than a decade performing together, we are very connected musically.
Known for all styles of jazz, we are just as competent and enthusiastic about other music genres, including R&B, Pop, Soul, Country, Latin, Soft Rock and other songs.

Vocalist, Suzanne Brooks, has trained with the best coaches in the country, including Chris Beatty of Nashville and Seth Riggs of LA. Chris Lee, is classically trained on piano which enhances his skills as a jazz improvisationalist.
Jim Wendt, bassist, is also our arranger and a multi-instrumentalist. Dave Peters, drummer, has been accepted into the prestigious Berkeley Jazz Institute.
Michael Otwell, sax, flute and vocals adds to the showmanship of the band.
Each has more than 15 years experience in all kinds of music and bands. We perform and record originals by Suzanne Brooks & other contemporary composers, as well as a very wide array of standards in Jazz (including themed periods and swing),
We have performed themed events from the “Roaring Twenties,” “Harlem Renaissance” and “Mardi Gras” which include the 1890s -1930s decades. Our original show, “Great Women of Jazz, 1890 to 1990,” received great reviews, leading us to repeat it for four years.
Another of our innovative shows, “I Believe I Can Fly,” featured a 112 year old woman reciting her poems and telling her stories, as we performed music from every decade of her life.
This very successful show drew an audience of more than 400, with publicity which went viral throughout California, across the country and internationally, reaching more than 10 million in print and electronic media.
Many of the venues where we have performed have been corporate events, attended by 500+ people, such as at San Francisco’s Exploratorium on Fisherman’s Wharf where we also performed a Great Gatsby theme.
The Jazz Generation is known as a classy and classic group with great vocal and instrumental performances and an East Coast style.
We bridge generations and cultures with many kinds of music and with some vocals in multiple languages when appropriate. (Spanish, French, Hawaiian).
The Jazz Generation is a great band for events sought for a variety of genres. We also perform themed events in jazz from 1890 to the present.
Bandleader/Singer Brooks, has been honored by the Sacramento Arts Commission for Achievement in the Arts and Arts Advocacy. She is originally from Philadelphia, PA which accounts for the East Coast style of the band in sound and appearance.
