Renovated in 1908, the steps of the roman amphitheater rest against a steep hill called the Pipet. In ancient times temples and statues were formed as a sacred extension of the theatre at the top of the hill.

The Théâtre Antique of Vienne was the second largest amphitheater in the Roman Empire, just after the one in Autun, Gaul.

Ancient Vienne

Flowing with charm is the Italian Theatre of Vienne which will host the Club de Minuit during the festival.

Near the gardens of Cybèle, from the Middle Ages until 1938 stood the charity building, Aumône Saint Paul and the hospital, Hôtel-Dieu.

The roman remains that we see standing today in the Jardins de Cybèle were discovered at the time that Hotel Dieu and Aumône Saint Paul were destroyed.

This new archaeological garden was holding old archways, an assembly room, houses and fitted out decks from the Ancient times.

Jazz a Vienne

Jazz a Vienne is a French jazz festival founded in 1981, which acquired a big international reputation in short time.

It is held for two weeks every summer in Vienne, in the Isere department.

Jazz a Vienne is situated at the heart of the city of Vienna and has a very unique atmosphere.

Jazz a Vienne has a total of four festival stages: le Théâtre Antique, le Club de Minuit, le Jazz Mix and les Jardins de Cybèle.

Many famous jazz musicians have performed at the Roman Theatre of Vienne, which seats more than 7,000.

Among the legends that played at Jazz a Vienne are Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Claude Challe, Michel Petrucciani, Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny Rollins, Lionel Hampton, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Chuck Berry and Ike Turner.
